| Project 4 – Dharwad Hostel Library |
The Bhavsar Kshatriya Hostel in Dharwad hosts about 25 students. In a modest building, two students share a room with basic furniture.
In January 07, BI member Ms. Nanda Bondade and Dr. Nagnath Mahindrakar visited the hostel. In an informal gathering with the residents and Warden, students' needs in the hostel was discussed. BI was interested in knowing how we can help the students to study better. The students wished they had a library of basic books, computers and some furniture for the library. BI decided to fulfill the student’s wish to set up a Library in the hostel. A computer and funds to purchase books and furniture were sent to Dharwad. On May 26, 2007 the day of Shri Shrinivas Tikare's Birthday Celebration, the BI Hostel Library project was inaugurated and handed over to the samaj elders. BI would continue to stock the library with more books, computers and furniture and help the students living in the hostel with facilities to help them in their studies. The local Bhavsar Samaj will supervise the project. This is a pilot project in providing libraries and establishing personal contacts with individual students to provide them educational and career guidance.
